kitchen as crucial as the clinic

Hello faithful readers. I've been from Plymouth Rock to the Prairie and back since the last time we met here (pictures in the coming days) and now I'm getting back on track with school, my local elders, gardens, and life in general; a busy beautiful time. I am teetering on the verge of a possible cold so I've been taking in lots of water, extra vitamins, extra sleep, local honey, and limiting my to-do list to the bare essentials. I hope my wellness wins this little tug-of-war going on in my body. Speaking of wellness, I read an article by Katrina Heron in the New York Times that made me nod and smile this morning. I think you'll like it. My favorite quote:

...But increasingly, his reputation and perpetual motion revolve around his conviction that in the health professions, the kitchen must become as crucial as the clinic. Food is at the center of health and illness, he argues, and so doctors must make all aspects of it — growing, buying, cooking, eating — a mainstay of their medical educations, their personal lives and their practices...

Amen to that. That's what I'm talkin' about. There are good things happening out there, a flow in the direction of wholeness. Smiling and nodding and contemplating what's for dinner...

Welcome back. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures. I hope your healthy activities prevent the cold from taking hold. I am trying the more healthy approach to life too buy getting back to walking. I hope my feet hold up.

Glad to hear you are back safely. Enjoyed the article, love to CHEF... I haven't had a cold in a looong time and I swear it's all the greek yogurt I eat.
