in solidarity

Here on the Outer Cape, there is no shortage of passion....for art, for the sea, for all sentient beings.....even Crows. A hot debate is underway about crows and piping plovers, between townspeople and natural resource officials. Piping plovers are a protected shorebird. Crows eat plover eggs. The natural resource folks announced in the local newspaper last week that they have planned to poison crows for a certain amount of time, in a certain area of Wellfleet. Whaaaaaat? To borrow a line, "That don'make no sense." People are not. havin' it. There are handpainted "Save the Crows" signs and flags around town and hanging on overpasses. God bless this town. I love that people are getting so fired up about this and painting signs in solidarity. Surely, there are other ways of continuing to protect plovers than to poison another bird species. This is one of those things that will go down in the history books as really stupid. Hopefully just a really stupid idea. Hopefully the natural resource people will come to their senses. Hopefully the townspeople's passion and fury and love for all will bring everyone back to the drawing board about how to protect the plover nests. I celebrate my fellow townspeople's sense of justice, even for crows. My kind of town. See this recent news article with a great photo...

In other news, Chile. Condolences.....to all who have lost family members and friends in that disaster....Remembering you:

I'm sensing a theme here, birds are playing a big part in your lives. It is amazing what little or maybe big things make the world go around.

"I've always liked the crows. They just get up in your face and tell it how it is."

An example of someone deciding which birds are the "good" ones? Although you gotta think one of the natural resource folks will have that epifany. "HEY, does it make sense for us to Kill birds to save Other birds?!" Hmmm, something about that just don't sound right......
