not all who wander are lost

not all who wander are lost

Emily called me today at a serendipitous moment and after talking for awhile, she mentioned she had just listened to a good Speaking of Faith interview today. I ended up listening to several Speaking of Faith interviews tonight because of that. My favorite because it was timely for me was with Rachel Naomi Remen, MD. The interview was entitled Listening Generously and I wanted it to last forever. The two books she's written, Kitchen Table Wisdom and My Grandfather's Blessings are two of my favorite books, both worth multiple reads, both worth owning and pulling off the shelves when you need a gentle and wise voice...

from tonight's listen:
What appears to be a catastrophe can in fact become, over time, a strong foundation for living a good life.
The way we deal with loss in our lives shapes our capacity to be present to everything we still HAVE in our lives.
Loss is not the end of the story, what happens next is very important. We don't have to be victims focusing on our suffering, we have the opportunity to be survivors focusing on the strength that carried us through that suffering.

Amen to that, and thanks Em.

For a listen of your own, check out Speaking of Faith.

My pleasure Sister! Did you listen to Presence in the Wild? The interview with Game Warden chaplain Kate Braestrup? That's one of my favorites. Now that you're almost addicted have you started listening to the unedited interviews yet? I think the unedited conversation with Rachel Naomi Remen is longer and worth a listen! I love listening to her talk.

Love you, Em

And I LOVE listening to her tell the story of the birthday of the world that her grandfather used to tell her!!

I might have to listen to that after my meeting this morning.
