In the news

If it weren't for the news today it would seem like just another quiet grey day in Colombo.

BBC

Washington Post

CNN

The Lanka Academic

Well... it is a quiet breezy grey day in Colombo, but there is some serious fighting going on in Jaffna, the northern tip of the island. There were also reports of continued fighting in Trincomalee area, the northeastern part of the country.

We canceled our travel plans to Malaysia. We wanted to go sight seeing in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, then do some diving around Sipadan Island, off the coast of Borneo. Jacques Cousteau raved about Sipadan in the 80's. Supposedly it has not changed a whole lot since then. The way we figure, if it's good enough for Jacques it's good enough for us. But, alas, there are more serious things going on in our life at the moment. We can wait to see Malaysia a little while longer. It will feel good to go diving again though. We found some folks here to go diving with too as soon as the conditions are right in Sri Lanka. Can't wait.

Thousands of people are afraid and suffering due to the conflict. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are caught amongst the fighting here and abroad.
