On Fathers Day

The wind is blowing today. So much movement makes me want to be still...

Remembering the Father's Day card I wrote to Dad last year. The message I wrote was so raw and honest and full of my love....I almost didn't send it. But then I did send it and as it happened, I ended up pulling the card out of that envelope myself at Hospice, sitting beside his bed. You want me to read it to you Pops? He nodded. He had his eyes closed and nodded while I read. He patted my hand. He got it. He got me.....I got him....that was the best part of "us." I feel him today. So tangible. While there is more to write about that, for today the best words that come are: it's never the end and that is a beautiful thing.

On this Fathers Day, I'm thankful for Papa Blandford whose love is big and wide and a comfort to me. I am profoundly aware, perhaps especially this year, of what a blessing it is to have him in my life. Papa.

The tide was low when I came out from church today. The wind blew the briny smell of the flats and made me thankful for where I am. Love wraps around me close, and beyond me to you, connecting us, surrounding us, one to another. A sacred circle, within which everyone stands, every one.

Your father loved you very much. I am glad that you had that time together to share. I'm also glad that you have wonderful men in your life. That is a good reflection on your father too. Relationships between a father and daughter are special and sometimes difficult. I am glad that you and your father were able to 'get' each other.

Whenever I see you I will hug you twice; one for your Dad and one for me. If that ain't enough, I'll hug you again...
