Langston Hughes

It is the birthday of Langston Hughes today. He was born February 1, 1902 and died May 22, 1967. Hughes was an American poet, playwright, columnist, novelist, and short story writer. He is perhaps best known for his work during the Harlem Renaissance. Less well known is that he traveled the world during his lifetime which is truly remarkable and inspiring, especially considering the time in world history and the specific places he visited: China Japan Soviet Union Turkmenistan Europe and Africa. Oh to sit and hear his stories...What reverie...

I appreciate his poetry and influence in our country's history. There are so many beautiful prose but for today I pick The Dream Keeper. Happy birthday Mr. Hughes. Honor and respect and inspiration continue in your name...

The Dream Keeper

Bring me all of your dreams,
You dreamer,
Bring me all your
Heart melodies
That I may wrap them
In a blue cloud-cloth
Away from the too-rough fingers
Of the world.
