Wellfleet Oysterfest 2009

A few Wellfleetian Oyster Shuckers at the 2009 Wellfleet Oysterfest.

this little princess is about to get her face-painted
like a butterfly...

Our local surfshop, Sickday had a booth; one of hundreds that lined Main St during Oysterfest
Remember the World Champ? He had his own raw bar. Guess where we ordered up our delicacies? Guess who shucked 'em?

That's right....Choppaaaa!

This is where we had our Shellfish Farming class Saturday morning, to which I wore my bells
It was cold but it was very interesting; worth the freeze.

The crowd gathered for the Oystershucking Preliminary Contest. People came from all over to compete. There was even a guy from Vermont...the "Va-monsta" was his stage name. Music, contest clock ticking unforgivably, judges peering over the shoulders of shuckers. Oh the presha, oh the excitement!

The famous Wellfleet Oyster: highest absorbable concentration of zinc available; aphrodisiac, delicious, nutritious, I think my new favorite food ever.

And that night, we drove to Yarmouth (pronounced Ya-mith) where we grooved to tunes and new ones too, met new friends, and enjoyed, in that deeeeeeep good real way, seeing our dear friends in their element with a dancing happy clapping stomping crowd.
