Sri Lanka

The government of Sri Lanka has declared the war to be over. The Supreme Leader of the LTTE, Prabakaran is said to be dead. The newsreels leave me dumbfounded. It is hard to believe. I have so many questions. Many people are suffering. There is a lot of work being done on behalf of those wounded, separated, and displaced. The International Committee of the Red Cross and other humanitarian actors are and have been hard at work to address the needs. The government of Sri Lanka has enormous responsibility with their claimed victory. What will be done in the immediate days and weeks to address the still divided hearts and minds of Sri Lankan people? How will the distrust and suspicion that pervasively infects the very spirit of a country be healed? What will happen politically, legally to restore justice to the oppressed? What help from the government will be given to the people to plant seeds of trust that will have a chance to grow and flourish in future generations? There is so much that needs to happen, immediately.

It is already written, yes.
But I still pray.

Light. That's what I picture. Quiet gentle healing nurturing light over every thing, every place, every person...

The fighting has stopped and that IS a good thing, but it is not the end of the story. The cause and effect of this war need to be addressed, adequately genuinely, starting immediately, efforts sustained over time. Holding that expectant awareness and waiting for news from my friends...
