Idlewild

The Red Roosta...they weren't open for lunch (it's a nightlife kinda place) but Roosta sent us on to Baldwin for lunch at Debbie's.

Idlewild has an amazing history.
Idlewild was the first African American vacation resort town in the United States. In summers past, entertainers such as Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, Duke Ellington, Count Bassie, Ella Fitzgerald would come to this tiny little Michigan town. We met an older gentleman in his 70's who recounted some of those memories for us. After suggesting that we get ice cream at Jones in Baldwin, he gave Leo an Idlewild-style handshake, gave me a smile and a nod, and we made our way to Baldwin.

Mister Brother having some Jones Ice Cream next door to the Democratic Party office in Baldwin.
