Happy Sinhala and Tamil New Year greetings from Sri Lanka. I am back from the beach on Sunday and the night is FILLED with the sound of firecrackers, all across the city. Reflecting on this past year, lots to be thankful for. I'm mindful as well of the many hardships faced by people here in Sri Lanka due to the conflict. I pray for peace, for people to be inspired and encouraged in their love for one another and for this country, for people to think with their own minds and hearts and not be led astray by slanderous rhetoric. I think of Barack Obama's We Want Change speech and I transplant those hopeful empowering message seeds into this rich island soil in my mind...

"...that we are not as divided as our politics suggest, that we are one people, we are one nation, and together we will begin the next chapter in the [replace American with Sri Lankan] story with three words that will ring from coast to coast, from sea to shining sea--Yes We Can, Yes We Can."

I imagine the collective human spirit of this place lighting these firecrackers, blasting the negative energy away to begin again with fresh hearts and minds. Cracking banging exploding.

Get it all out, light it and send it soaring and exploding into the sky.

And then comes a pure silence, a new day~

Beautiful thoughts, prayers, hopes. We second that. May all that desire change find each other and start the MOVEMENT.
