Leo, Andreas, and I just returned from a lovely weekend at the beach with friends. The wibe was excellent. Great conversation, quiet moments for reading and dozing and beachcombing, delicious meals together at a big table with lots of lively conversations and laughing and passing of dishes. Fellowship. I loved it so much. This morning, early, there was a knock on the cottage door where Leo, Andy, and I slept. I opened it and our friend Lynn greeted me with a big full of love happy birthday hug :) Then mom called. It was awesome to hear her voice today. After a big groggy but still lively early breakfast with our friends, we headed back to Colombo. Stopped at the old Dutch fort in Galle (1663 is OLD). Bought some old lookin' coins supposedly found in shipwrecks by master divers from the Colonial times. They were in a recycled butter tub so they might be fake but they're really cool looking and we didn't break the bank on them so, it's all good :) It would be cool to have them carbon dated someday to see if they're real.
I turned 33 today. I feel happy about that.
Last night the rain spoke to me
Last night the rain spoke to me slowly, saying, what joy to come falling out of the brisk cloud, to be happy again in a new way on the earth! That’s what it said as it dropped, smelling of iron, and vanished like a dream of the ocean into the branches and the grass below. Then it was over. The sky cleared. I was standing under a tree. The tree was a tree with happy leaves, and I was myself, and there were stars in the sky that were also themselves at the moment at which moment my right hand was holding my left hand which was holding the tree which was filled with stars and the soft rain – imagine! imagine! the long and wondrous journeys still to be ours.
