With only a few more days until kick-off, World Cup fever is heating up. If you haven't heard the FIFA 2006 World Cup is in Germany this year, and leave it to the Americans to screw it up before it even starts. Budweiser is the official beer of World Cup this year. Now, my understanding of what this means is that only Budweiser can be sold at the games, in Germany. Did I mention that World Cup is in Germany and the only beer available is Budweiser?!? What is wrong with that scenario? No wonder Americans get such a bad rap outside of the States.
Beer talk aside, the US National Team has faired well in the rankings leading up to the tourneament. As of this month, the US team is 5th in the FIFA rankings. An impressive feat, now the question lingers as to how long the US team will last. They did really well in the 2002 World Cup in Japan/Korea by making it to the quarterfinals, the best the US had done since 1930. They were knocked out of the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Germany. The pressure is on this year. Regardless of how well the US team does the excitement of World Cup is truly fun.

Leo, don't pay attention to the FIFA rankings - they're a joke. While the US team is much improved, we're in a really tough group - I doubt if they advance this time around.
