Hikkaduwa Deka

(Deka means 2)

The following is an illustration of the rest of our HikkaDawgie Adventures...

Asanka invited us to have lunch at his home on the jungle-side. We weaved our way back away from the main roads, the tuktuk began showing off its "off-road skills" to our impressed, expressed amusement. Once off Galle Road, aka Kamakazi Speedway, Leo took the tuktuk for a spin......NO ONE BATTED AN EYE!! He looks Sri Lankan, he drives Sri Lankan, he gets the local wave from the local dudes in their sarongs and....are those foreigners in the back of that tuktuk?

Coconuts drinkin' KING COCONUTS, or tambili.

It isn't a MountainWave Adventure without a little jammin and groovin~

Sri Lanka is unique geologically from other places on earth. The innards of Sri Sri Lanka glimmers with an unusual array of gems. It claims to be the only place on earth where blue Moonstone has been found, it is also famous for sapphires, garnets, and many other precious and semi-precious stones. So, our little beach brother Asanka drove us in his tuktuk to a Moonstone Mine. It is a very unassuming, humble get-up. People climb down deep into the ground on bamboo latters, there is water down there, a pulley system for the buckets of stones coming up, candles in case the oxygen level becomes too low....it's old school. The bucket o' pebbles that is pulley'd up to the surface is dumped into a woven basket, shook in a knee-deep rinse puddle, and already you could see the ghostly white glow, the pale blue hue of moonstone in the basket. Exciting :) I loved it.

There were also buckets with big chunks and pebbles of different raw but cleaned stones...

Energy vibes, beautiful earth treasure, raw and real.

Aunt Della would LOVE this place, and lots more of you too.

From Hikkaduwa we returned to Colombo for a few days before Zach's return voyage. We shopped a bit, ate at our favorite food joints, played carom and enjoyed the last moments of being together.

We left with a crazy taxi driver to the airport. Everybody was pretty quiet in the car. I don't know if it was the fact that the taxi driver was a coconut and we were intensely contemplating our demise or if the three musketeers were feelin' a little soft. It helps a lot to know that we'll see each other again in December. Less than 10 weeks away.It is a blessing to spend time together...these are days we will never forget. They become part of the history of what makes us connected. For this I am most truly thankful.
Peace,
Sara ~ Leo ~ Zachary
